Briana – HPC Adult Housing Success
Briana is a U.S. veteran and a mother of five who made the difficult decision to leave a domestic violence situation to protect her family. “I didn’t anticipate not having a place for me and my kids to live,” she shared. She and four of her children spent time in shelters, facing uncertainty as they searched for stability. At the encouragement of her church, she applied for housing at HPC. When they were accepted into the program, she and her children cried with relief. For the first time in a long time, they felt safe.
Adjusting to the program was not easy. Learning to budget required major changes, but over time, Briana built new habits. She paid off four collection accounts, reduced other debts, and began saving. She also enrolled in school and was awarded a scholarship through HPC. Now, Briana is preparing to move into HPC’s new Graduate Housing program. There, she will pay rent, build credit, and continue working toward independent housing.
Her daughter shared, “I’m really grateful to Hillcrest because not only have they helped my mom with budgeting, but I’ve been able to see my mom happier than I’ve ever seen her in the past couple of years.”
